Horror Movies 2012 List

10. Devil inside

The Devil Inside

One of the two Exorcism movies in the Top 10 Horror movies and scary movies list this year, Devil inside is a horror movie which will give you a nostalgic feeling and you might even remember The Blair witch or Cloverfield at times. A woman seeks to find out the truth about the possession of her mom and how her exorcism went so horribly wrong that she killed three men. Although one of the most original and interesting horror movies of the season, Devil inside falls a bit short on the ending as well as acting in certain parts. On the whole, it is quite a good flick and is just as enjoyable to watch as the next one on the Top 10 list!

9. The Woman in Black (2012)

The Woman in Black

The Woman in Black is placed 9th in the Top 10 Best Horror Movies 2012 list. This horror movie is based on a novel which was written back in 1983. It was transformed into a stage play and now into a full length horror feature film! Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe stars in this horror movie about a restless ghost who has a secret to tell. The unwelcoming ambiance coupled with the frosty England marshes in the winter flawlessly sets the terrifying tone and sends chills down your spine even in the trailers! The Woman in Black ranked number 1 in the Top 10 Most Awaited Movies 2012 list as well as horror movies list but slipped down a few places because the ending did not satisfy quite a lot of the crowd. Personally, I thought that it was perfect and couldn’t have been any better that it was.

8. Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

Already a huge hit, Hunger games has already secured its place as one of the best movies of this year! Hunger games is based on a post apocalypse novel in which humans pit the weak against each other for reality shows and entertainment (God knows our reality shows are going in exactly the same direction!). One of the major reasons for success is the brilliant acting by the leading lady Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. A girl volunteers to take place of her younger sister to represent her district for the latest edition of hunger games and tries to survive the death match. Ironically, the only way to survive is to kill others. Hunger Games is indeed an excellent attempt to convert the novel to the silver screen and is a must see!

7. Chernobyl Diaries

Chernobyl Diaries

Chernobyl Diaries has been ranked 7th in the Top 10 Best Horror Movies 2012 list. Chernobyl Diaries is the brainchild of the directors of Paranormal Activity franchise and they try to bring back part of the horror which was caused in summer 1986 by the unfortunate nuclear reactor disaster. A group of tourists go back to the affected graves towns near Chernobyl and soon discover that the effect of the nuclear radiation has transformed a lot of things over the years. The mood and settings are perfect for horror movies and rest will be seen on 25th May 2012 when Chernobyl Diaries will be released. Cross your fingers and hope for the best!

6. John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End is probably one of the most underrated horror movies of this season. John Dies at the End is about a special substance which transports the hero to an alter dimension. Once there, he manages to find out an unearthly force which is hell bent of destroying life as we know it. Written and directed by the master storyteller Don Coscarelli, there are so many in-your-face twists and surprises that you’ll think that you’re on the Grand Prix track! With a perfect blend of comedy and horrifying creatures, John Dies at the End is one of those horror movies you simply cannot miss! Run out of the house right now and grab yourself a copy before it is sold out!

5. The Last Exorcism 2

The Last Exorcism 2

The Last Exorcism 2 (titled Beginning of the End) was made due to the growing interest of audience in exorcism horror movies and is the sequel to The Last Exorcism and everything about it has been kept very mum. The troubled preacher and his partners from the last movie have been dropped in favor of a brand new cast (save Nell Sweetzer) and the story about the girl continues a bit down the road. The story written this time around is based on real life stories and events! The Last Exorcism 2 is placed 5th in the Top 10 Best Horror Movies 2012 list. The release date for The Last Exorcism 2 has still not been confirmed but most probably come out late in December.

4. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is one of the most original horror movies to come out in a long time. Loosely following a novel with the similar title, we are taken through the events and happenings as if we are reading Abraham Lincoln’s personal diary. The account takes us through Abraham Lincoln’s youth and his alter surreptitious life. After finding out that his mother was killed by a vampire, he succeeds in settling the scores with the vampire but gets viciously beaten by another one. Ironically, he is nursed back to healthiness by a good vampire (no, not Edward!) and thus starts a tale of a deep insight in the ways of the vampire. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has all the right mixes of action and intrigue neede in horror movies to make it a worthwhile watch!

3. [REC] ³ Genesis

[REC] ³ Genesis

[REC] ³ Genesis has been placed 3rd in the Top 10 Best Horror Movies 2012 list due to the fan following this franchise has already gained in a short couple of years. The found footage horror movies genre is not very old but has gained the approval of audience with huge hits like the Paranormal Activity and [Rec] series. [REC] ³ Genesis follows the story where the second part had left off yet is quite different from its previous installments as they were shot entirely indoors in quarantined spaces where as this time around, all the bloody fountains and severing takes place outdoors! [REC] ³ Genesis is one of those horror movies that should not be missed and if you have somehow managed to miss the first 2 installments, its better to see them first so that you can better understand and enjoy this one!

2. Prometheus

Coming from one of the greatest directors of all time, Prometheus is Ridley Scott’s gift to his fans as he bends all rules of imagination and history to come up with a shocking experience for horror movies lovers all around the world! Prometheus is a lost spaceship a team of scientists find upon during a voyage to determine the origin of human life. What happens on board that ship convinces the team that not only were they so very wrong about our race, but the time left for humans to live has indeed come to an end! Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is said to be the prequel of the Alien series and is already creating quite a stir among the horror movies lovers!

1. World War Z

World War Z

Although the wedding of Angelina Jolie to Brad Pitt (finally!!) may have given some extra hype to this horror movie, we still are pretty excited about World War Z as it is sure to be one of the biggest titles of this year! Zombies are back with a bang in horror movies. World War Z is being directed by Marc Forster. Brad Pitt stars as a U.N. employee who is the world’s last hope against the rapidly spreading nemesis of zombie virus (like the Resident Evil series). The beautiful Mireille Enos also appears in the movie as his wife. Let’s just hope that braddy does not do something like he did in Troy! World War Z ranks 1st in the Top 10 Best Horror Movies 2012 list.
